What should I do if I have a health emergency on campus?

 

If you have an emergency on campus (i.e. an accident or situation that puts your life at risk), you should:

1. Call Annex 5000 from UC landlines, call 22 354 5000 from cell phones or call 22354 5000 from landlines outside UC.

2. Stay where you are and wait for the nurse and the security officer to arrive at the place where the incident occurred. 

3. Follow the instructions provided by the nurse or the security officer.

Currently, Campus San Joaquin, Oriente, and Lo Contador have a clinical nurse who will go to the place where the incident occurred.

The nurse will deliver the care you need and decide whether it is necessary to transfer you to an emergency service and, depending on the severity of your condition, a taxi or an ambulance in contractual partnership with the UC will be called, at no cost to you.

If you are on UC Villarrica campus, you must contact the social worker Tamara Muñoz at 22411830, who will carry out the referral process to the Villarrica Hospital, claiming the State School Insurance coverage.

 

In case I need to be transferred to an Emergency Service, what are my options?

In case of a medical emergency, the student will decide the place of transfer:

Emergency Service of the UC CHRISTUS Clinical Hospital: in case of an accident, UC students have economic benefits for healthcare services provided:

 The university covers 100% of the emergency medical consultation

 20% in laboratory tests and

 10% in x-rays and procedures

 Benefits Do NOT cover pharmacy or nursing supplies.

Public Hospital Emergency Service: in case of an accident on campus or on the way to or from it, the student may be transferred to a Public Hospital, the medical expenses being fully covered by the State School Insurance. To do this, the campus nurse must complete the insurance statement.

Hospital or clinic according to the student's healthcare contract: the student may choose to be transferred to an emergency service he is in contractual partnership with, the medical expenses being covered by him or the person responsible for the insurance contract. The University will not finance the expenses or the copayments sustained.

* You must sign an informed consent that authorizes the transfer to the place of your convenience. 

 

What is the schedule of the campus infirmary?

- San Joaquin Campus from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

- Campus Oriente and Lo Contador from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday; and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

- Campus Casa Central  9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

 

What happens if I feel sick, but it is not an emergency?

• If you are on San Joaquin Campus, you must go to the Student Health Department (3rd floor of the University Hall, San Joaquin Campus), to request a medical appointment. You can also request your appointment by phone (22354 5412 - 22354 5414).

• If you are on Campus Lo Contador, Campus Oriente or Casa Central, you can call the Student Health Department at 22354 5412 - 22354 5414 and arrange an appointment.

If you are on Campus Villarrica, you must contact the social worker Tamara Muñoz, who will refer the student to one of the external doctors in contractual partnership with UC, according to their schedule availability (two general practitioners, a gynecologist, a dentist and an ophthalmologist).

 

What should I do if the accident occurs to me during the commute to the University, the place of professional internship or home?

• You can go to the Emergency Service of the UC Clinical Hospital, located in Marcoleta #367, Santiago (Universidad Católica metro station) and present your TUC to prove that you are a student of the UC, for PARTIAL COVERAGE of the care.

If you are on Villarrica Campus, you must contact the social worker Tamara Muñoz, who will refer the student to one of the doctors in contractual partnership with UC.

 

How do I reimburse the expenses of the UC CHRISTUS Clinical Hospital?

After being discharged, you must go to the Student Health Department within three business days to regularize your situation.

*All Student Health benefits apply to regular students in academic terms. Students who are in the academic term in January and February (TAV or internship) have the same benefits as in the regular academic term.

*Regular postgraduate students have the same benefits and conditions as undergraduate students, provided that they have a current healthcare contract (ISAPRE or FONASA) or health insurance in contractual partnership with the university.

*Regular exchange students in Chile, if attending a public hospital, have State School insurance coverage for accidents in academic activities. If attending the UC CHRISTUS Clinical Hospital, they must pay 100% of the medical service provided in the hospital.
